La Luz Beach Resort is one of the most popular beaches in San Juan, Batangas, along the long stretch of shorelines from Barangay Laiya-Aplaya to Barangay Hugom. It is easily accessible by car or public transport and is around 2-3 hour travel from Manila. The resort is usually packed during weekends so an advance booking is required especially for overnight stays. My friends Jasper and Meg booked in advance a day trip package for 6 persons at the resort to shoot their pre-nuptial video. Our first booking however, was canceled due to bad weather conditions but luckily they were able to rebook it. The resort requires 50% deposit to confirm a reservation, which must be paid at its office in Manila or deposited directly in its account.
THE BEACH
Following the detailed “how to get there” directions of the resort’s website, my friends and I left Alabang around 5 in the morning and had a pleasant road-trip to San, Juan, Batangas via South Luzon Express Way (SLEX). Except for the last few kilometers of rough road approaching La Luz, the trip was quick and smooth and making our way to the resort was easy with the help of numerous signboards and the directions provided on its website.
THE CABANAS
I didn’t realize that this was the same resort we had passed by a week before on our way to trek Mt. Daguldol until I went to the shore and saw the familiar rocky cliff on its western end. The resort is clean and well-maintained. It isn’t as pristine as the beaches of Zambales and it doesn’t have the fine-white sand texture we all love, but it is probably the best beach in this area. If you walk further beyond the rocky cliff, the sand becomes even rougher and pebbly.
DINING AT LA LUZ
The different accommodations provide the basic needs and come with a set meal-package – 1,050 pesos for an overnight stay and 750 pesos for a day-trip. Our day-trip package included a lunch, afternoon snack, entrance fee, and use of the resort’s facilities (beach chairs, cabanas, restrooms and dining pavilion). The cabanas are on a first-come first-served basis so it is important to go to the resort early especially on weekends and peak season. The food is served in a communal mess hall for both day-trippers and over-night visitors. It’s not gourmet quality but the 4-dish meal is filling enough. You may want to dig-in the moment the food is ready because they may quickly change the viand for the next batch and the dessert may not be replenished at all once it is finished.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We mostly stayed in the cabana for the rest of the day while Meg and Jas were having their video shoot. The cabana is made of natural materials and draped with white curtains. The resort’s surroundings evoke a relaxed and calm atmosphere and the lush foliage in its yard makes the surroundings shady and cool. It is also quiet and peaceful despite it being open to the residents of the area to walk through (perhaps it was also because we went there on a weekday). The weather that day was fantastic, and the whole place was just perfect for their pre-nuptial video shoot.
MY FRIENDS
There is really nothing much to do at the resort if you’re not into diving and snorkeling which are the main activities in store for visitors. Aside from swimming and kayaking, this place is best for a quiet and relaxing getaway from the city. This may not be an adventure-packed destination but its accommodation is good enough, and the facilities and the cozy ambiance is something I would recommend for a romantic getaway with your special someone, or laid-back bonding with your friends.
THE SHORELINE
Special thanks to Meg and Jasper for inviting me to document their pre-nuptial video shoot and to Anna, Chay and Thor for a great company. Sa uulitin po

Glad to know you had fun, how was the buffet?
Question: Malapit ba ung La Luz sa Moonlight or Lucky 7 resort? Thanks
