Caramoan: Cotivas Island

Approaching Cotivas Island

At the height of the scorching noontime sun, we reached another gorgeous strand of sandbar during our island-hopping around Caramoan. It wasn’t as vast as the sandbar at Manlawi Island but it still had its own captivating charm. Clear shallow waters that stretch off into the distance from the surrounding shores and a strand of dreamy white sand welcomed us as we approached the picturesque Cotivas Island. A few coconut palms dot its shores while an obtrusive set of cordoned wooden structures used by the reality TV series Survivor seem to have disturbed the remote feel of the island.

We were fortunate to have visited the island when it was still low-tide – a huge part of its sandbar is submerged during high tide. Just like at Manlawi Island, our boat moored away from the shore and walked through shallow crystal clear waters to reach the sandbar. The other side of the island was good for swimming. The snorkeling areas weren’t as great as the ones near Matukad Island but the fleeting moments spent with Cotivas Island were just as memorable.

Goodbye Cotivas

This was our next destination but my aunt decided to skip it and spend the rest of our time at Sabitang Laya Island. It was the only island with an entrance fee. (20pesos)

(Cotivas Island was our second destination during our island-hopping at Caramoan, Camarines Sur in 2010.)
